How to Get There
Selous Game Reserve is located in southern Tanzania, about 250 km from Dar es Salaam. The easiest way to reach Selous is by taking a domestic flight from Dar es Salaam to one of the airstrips within the reserve, such as the Selous Airstrip or the Mtemere Airstrip. Several airlines, including Coastal Aviation and Precision Air, operate scheduled flights.
For those looking for a more adventurous route, it’s also possible to drive from Dar es Salaam, although this can take 5 to 7 hours on gravel roads, depending on your destination within the reserve.
When we visited, we used a safari car with our car picking us up early morning (around 5am) from Dar Es Salaam and driving us all the way to our resort just outside the park. This offered an inexpensive and convenient way to get to the park. It also meant we had full control of our transportation from start to finish.
Alternatively, some visitors opt to travel to Selous via the town of Morogoro, then continue by car.
